President’s Message

Dear Members, Partners, and Friends,

Summer in Alaska always brings a surge of activity, and this season was no exception for the Alaska Chadux̂ Network. The brief stretch of good weather prompts a flurry of events and operations as our members take advantage of the season to conduct much of their business. In turn, our team supported a full range of responses, member exercises, projects, training, and critical maintenance at our sixteen remote response hubs. These efforts not only keep our readiness strong but also enable our members to operate with confidence, knowing they can rely on ACN for dependable prevention and response capabilities across Alaska’s vast and challenging regions.

This quarter also underscored the importance of engagement. We attended and spoke at several forums, sharing the work and mission of ACN on behalf of our members. Beyond industry forums, we continued to strengthen our community connections by volunteering at the Great Alaska Duck Race, sponsoring a table at the Coast Guard Foundation Alaska Dinner, and participating in the Anchorage waterfront clean-up. These activities reinforce ACN’s role as both a trusted industry partner and a committed community leader.

We also reached a major regulatory milestone with the Coast Guard’s acceptance of our updated Alternative Planning Criteria (APCs) for nontank vessels in the Western Alaska and Prince William Sound Captain of the Port Zones; we anticipate our updated tank vessel APCs will be accepted in the coming weeks. These updates reduce member burden, provide greater operational flexibility, and still uphold the highest standards for oil spill prevention and response. In practical terms, they reflect the return on investment of being part of ACN—delivering real-world solutions that balance regulatory compliance, operational efficiency, and environmental protection.

Meanwhile, our Monitoring Center is operating at full stride, increasing our satellite AIS coverage area with shorter vessel tracking latency. This advancement enhances situational awareness, increases coverage, and further strengthens the support we provide to our members as they conduct operations across Alaska. We also welcomed many visitors to our Anchorage facility this season, and their impressions echoed what we consistently hear: ACN delivers unique capabilities and services that our members can trust.

As we look ahead to the fall and winter months, our focus will remain on building on this momentum—continuing to expand capabilities, strengthen partnerships, and provide meaningful value to our members. The activities highlighted in this newsletter are not just seasonal accomplishments; they demonstrate the impact of your investment in ACN and the confidence you can have in our shared mission of protecting Alaska’s environment during the conduct of your business.

Thank you for your continued trust and support.

Warm regards,
Buddy Custard
